How much does eHarmonyeharmony cost cost? eHarmony cost and subscription pricing are listed below with discussion on some of the differences in plans, specifically Basic, TotalConnect and Premier. It’s hard to see how much eHarmony costs unless you’re an official member…and since becoming a member involves a rather long personality profile test, I wanted to provide eHarmony prices to those intersted.

2014: eHarmony Cost (Per Month)
3 Months 6 Months 12 Months 24 Months
eHarmony – U.S.eharmony cost us $59.95* $44.95 $25.95 $9.95
eHarmony – Canada $59.95* $44.95 $25.95 $9.95

*Note on the 3 month eHarmony price: When I last checked, a promotion was running that reduced the eHarmony price for 3 months to $9.95/month (or $29.85 total). Based on the fact that they quoted this as an 83% savings, that works out to about $59/month for the normal eHarmony cost.

In addition to those prices, eHarmony also has promotions (which you can find here) that give a discount for the longer-term subscriptions. These are time-sensitive and therefore not always available but when they are you can save up to 20%.

eHarmony also has frequent free events where you can use much of the service without any cost for extended time periods, which makes signing up in advance a good idea (they’ll email you regarding the free events once you have a free account).

Comments on eHarmony Prices and Plans in 2014

First off, there are three plans to choose from: Basic, TotalConnect and Premier. There’s also the Free plan which is what you get when you create your profile but as you can see below this is rather limited:

eharmony plan pricing

eHarmony Basic

This plan is the eHarmony I knew when I was using online dating years ago. It provides you everything you would need to meet someone using the service so don’t let “basic” scare you away. As you can see above, this is only missing three features of TotalConnect and none of those features are needed to meet someone.

That being said, I’ve found on recent visits to eHarmony that they frequently run promotions that upgrade the Basic plan to TotalConnect. I actually couldn’t sign up for Basic even if I wanted to on my last visit as the only option was the free upgrade. Not that this is bad, but you may experience the same thing.

eHarmony TotalConnect

eHarmony TotalConnect is the standard eHarmony subscription and includes several features that where originally offered optionally. The eHarmony cost for TotalConnect is a better price than the original method of purchasing optional features, so it’s good they’ve moved to a “plan” for these. The additional features that are included are:

  • Premium Book of You: eHarmony has started referring to your personality profile as the Book of You. The Premium Book of You provides a deeper understanding of your personality and how it can affect your relationships and dating life.
  • RelyID: Provides other singles with the knowledge that you are who you say you are by validating your ID. This will encourage some people to communicate with you, particularly since so many users of the service will have this feature.
  • Secure Call: Secure call allows you to communicate with your matches over the phone while keeping your phone number totally anonymous – plus there are no long distance charges. This is my favorite of the additional features included in the TotalConnect plan as I often get emails from singles looking for advice on when to share their phone number. This solves that issue.

eHarmony Premier

There’s not a lot of advertising for this version of the service (or I’m missing it). I stumbled on it by accident and I thought it would be good to share in case others were not aware of it either. eHarmony Premier is more expensive but also more personalized than TotalConnect. It includes:

  1. Ultimate Guarantee – if you don’t find someone right for you, they’ll extend your membership for 12 months.
  2. Take a Break – You can pause your account for up to three months and then come back with all the remaining time you had still waiting on you. This is a great feature if you end up pursuing a relationship but then it doesn’t go anywhere.
  3. Extra Advice – They provide a Relationship Starter Package which gives you expert advice for dating.
  4. Share eHarmony – They also give you 3 one-month subscriptions to share with friends.
  5. The eHarmony Team – You also get help from eHarmony on more specialized match selection, advice on your profile and help with your communicating.

Sounds great, right? But how much does eHarmony cost for the premier version? Well, it’s pricey. It’s $41.95 a month and there is only a 12-month option from what I can see (so roughly $500). Still, if it sounds interesting eHarmony had the Promo Code L2EC8P4A listed on their website to use when subscribing for Premier.

Thoughts on the eHarmony Prices and Subscriptions

First, the longer you sign up for the more you save but keep in mind that the prices are normally shown by month. In general, you’ll pay the full price up front…although this should be clear during the sign-up process.

Still, it’s worth doing the math before you sign up. I’ve seen times where the eHarmony 2-year plan is less expensive than the 1-year plan by a significant amount. You have to catch the right promotion, but it can happen.

eHarmony is one of the more pricey services but they also deliver a unique experience and a more guided approach to online dating. While it can be a sticker shock, I found the service very helpful when I was brand new to online dating as the service was very helpful via the communication process (especially helpful for a guy like me who had not idea what to include in an introductory email at the time!)

Be Aware Auto-Renewals

One final note: almost all dating services will auto-renew you at the same plan when your current runs out. When signing up for any dating site plan, be aware of this. For example, if you sign up for 6 months and then meet that special someone after the fourth or fifth month, eHarmony would still renew you at your old plan (six months) when your current plan time runs out.

With that in mind, if you find success or decide you want to take a break, be sure to cancel your plan so you’re not renewed unexpectedly.

Let eHarmony match you with quality singles looking for a long-term relationship

I don't think you can put a price on love, but sites can help in the search. Good luck to everyone.

This is great info. There are so many options out there and blogs like this make it easier to sort through when choosing an online dating site. I'm surprised to find out how expensive eHarmony can be, but to me, it seems like the most reputable online dating site. That auto-renewing is tricky though…

I have had several friends that have gone through these sites and although it sometimes takes awhile (2 of them actually found their wives on the last day of the subscription!!) it was very well worth it to them. I agree with Mike….it's hard to put a price on love and sometimes we need some help to find the right person.

Also, the internet allows people to look outside of just their local area for “the one.”

  4. Brad  March 22, 2010

Yeah, the cost of eHarmony can be high but I think it's all about the opportunity the service provides. I think if there were a dating service that cost $250 a month but guaranteed you would find that special person in those first 30 days, that it would be a very popular service. Obviously that service will never exist. My point is that people are willing to pay a higher cost for a better chance and I think in some ways that is what eHarmony provides.

and how does eharmony gurantee that you won't be bombarded with liars and cheaters? i caught my boyfriend subscribing to both eharmony and match.com – and he looks great on those profiles – who knows, may be one of you lucky ladies who pay to meet people like that will get him… good luck!

  6. Brad  April 9, 2010

eHarmony makes no such guarantee (you'll find liars in any form of dating to be fair). However, people who lie in their profile photos will have very bad first dates as they are immediately exposed as a liar and will either learn to stop lying or they will continue to fail. I talk with lots of people about online dating every week (obviously) and people lying in their photos is not a major complaint I hear. I rarely ever hear that one.

    Also, I hope you mean ex-boyfriend 🙂

Maybe you haven’t ran across that because you’re a guy. I’ve joined two dating services and on both it was the same thing. The guy didn’t even give his real name and it was a scam to try and get money from you. I reported it and they didn’t do a thing about it. My girlfriend by some freaky coincidence got the same guy and he basically did the same thing with her. They’re out there believe me and the internet makes it real easy for them.

    • OpinionsOutLoud  July 6, 2014

That has been my concern. Many people are dishonest with others and even with themselves. So, the “About You” questions that eHarmony asks seem like they will only work if people are honest with others, and themselves.

For example, a person might not like it that they are late all of the time; but if they are not honest, they might not find the right match. So, they should answer about who they are, not who they wish they were, and answer truthfully so they can find another person that is late all of the time, or a match that doesn’t mind tardiness. (Note: I don’t think that punctuality is a question on eHarmony and it is only meant to be an example of how people should be honest).

The point is that if a person is being honest with others and themselves, it seems they might be more likely to find a compatable match. People should even be honest about how much they really want to find someone. For example, if a person doesn’t want anything in life to change, why seek a mate that might leave the cap off of the toothpaste, might forget to refill the toilet paper dispenser, etc. Every person is a product of their experiences, which means mostpeople will come with their own personality and way of doing things.

I met my husband on eHarmony…we are truly a perfect match….I try to tell everyone that it’s not worth wasting time on Match.com (tried that first)… those services are way cheaper BUT you get a lot of window shoppers, or people looking for a date for the weekend…the people on eHarmony are paying a higher price & therefore are more serious about their commitment to the process……I met my husband in my first month, but he had been on there 7 months….it was definitely worth the money because we are truly happy!

I have a friend who routinely gets email solicitations from eHarmony offering him $10 per month subscriptions for a 3-month commitment. I’m LIVID! What it says on the solicitation is that 3 out of 4 eHarmony members are women, so I guess they are trying to give major price breaks to attract more men. I cancelled my subscription immediately. Isn’t it illegal to charge a woman more than 4xs what you’re charging a man for the exact same service?

    reply
    • Mark  June 22, 2012

Well there are tons of other places that won’t charge females, and require payment from all men. It’s their bussiness. Respectfully they can do as they please at their discretion.

Look up quest. Free to all females. All men pay. I don’t use it now, it’s low quality. However it would be nice if everything was fair and equal all the time. But that’s not likley to be realistic.

  11. Brad  January 8, 2011

Hey Allison – I doubt it’s illegal (although I’m not a law expert). I have heard of dating services where women don’t pay at all and I also know some bars have “ladies nights” so I suspect a different cost based on sex isn’t breaking any laws (again, not an expert).

Also, I had heard in the past that Chemistry had more women than men but this is the first time I’ve heard anything like that for eHarmony…was this stated in the emails your friend was receiving? If it came from anyone other than eHarmony I would be suspicious.

    • OpinionsOutLoud  July 6, 2014

Online does seem like the best idea, in my opinion. For example, I was in a grocery store one time. A man walked up to me and said “hello.” He went on to ask if there were any good wines that I would recommend (I figured he had a date and wanted to impress her). He mentioned that he had just relocated to the state from another state. He then asked if I lived nearby (this made me a little nervous). He was a really nice guy, but since I am not a size 2 anymore, I figured he was just a friendly person (I live in an area where smiling at strangers and talking to strangers is not uncommon). I was later told by a man that the guy was likely trying to “pick me up.” I had no clue that he was interested and just thought he was friendly. I felt so badly that I did not realize that he was flirting. I can only imagine how this courageous man must have felt (he built up the courage to talk to me and I walk away not even realizing that he was flirting). So, internet dating really does strip away all of that unknown. If someone is on a dating site, they are obviously looking and know that is the purpose of the website. Also, it gives time to kinda get to know someone before going on a date. Also, it takes away the “Is it o.k. for a woman to approach a man without looking badly to him” and so on. So, in my opinion, internet dating is a great avenue for meeting someone, even though people still need to exercise caution.

I would really love to join eHarmony as finding a committed Christian partner has been a difficult, long and fruitless exercise for me out here! However, being on a pension the cost is prohibitive. Yes, I agree love is worth it, but I still have bills to pay and food to buy and I just cannot afford the subscriptions asked for.

Name – I don’t consider eHarmony’s emails to be spam. I found them very valuable when I was dating online. Actually, I still find them valuable because they reveal when they are having free weekends!

As far as I can tell eHarmony emails me one the following about once every two weeks:

    1. General dating advice which is normally pretty solid and helpful
    2. Discounts for subscribing
    3. Alerts of free weekends

So what you see as a detriment (i.e., spam) I see as a benefit!

I did join Match.com, my reasoning being “free” dating sites are easy, using the old “you get what you pay for” theory, but I’m finding that it’s scary out there! It feels like a job, and my profile feels like a resume’. You know what I mean? Look good on paper, get the attention of the person deciding who to interview. Any suggestions on safety, and sorting the chaf from the wheat?

I saw that the price of eharmony will be like $59 a month. Do I have to pay for 6 months at a time all at one payment, or can I just take it a month at a time and pay only $59 up front?

I have been on other websites that are free. and I have beeon on Match and paid.

So will eharmony be better since it seems to match couples according to each other personality?

    Ronald

    reply
  23. Brad  June 28, 2012

Ronald – If you subscriber for 6 months, you’ll pay for all 6 months (barring the possible promotional offer from eHarmony that would let you pay monthly). This will save you a good bit of money as the longer you sign up for, the less the monthly cost is. However, you can choose to pay month to month.

As far as how much better eHarmony will be, that varies from person to person. Some people absolutely love the matching system and have a lot of success with it while others miss the ability to contact anyone they want. My opinion is that eHarmony provides a great service but you’ll want to decide for yourself.

    • Brad  August 20, 2012

Hey Barb – eHarmony controls who you communicate with by providing you a list of people on the site they think you’d get along well with (as opposed to letting you talk to everyone using the site). Once they give you someone to communicate with, you’re more in control to move that forward as you see fit, although how you move forward is more structured than at other dating sites.

Great blog. I’m totally new to online dating so the information you provided and the comments are very helpful. Thank you. I was wondering if you could tell me anything about the International aspect that E harmony has under 1 of the links for international dating. They are partnered with another site. Is that a separate membership ( for example if you also wanted to be matched with people from the Spanish site) ?. I am not a member if eharmony yet, but knowing that international prospects are also available might help me decide to jump in 🙂

If I had to guess, I’d say each one is a different service and I don’t think signing up for the US version would give you much opportunity internationally.

But I might be wrong – any other readers have any knowledge on this?

Mary – eHarmony does have specials. The only way I’m aware of getting the really good deals is to sign up for a free account and then wait for them to email out a special. Be warned it can take a long (potentially months) as there’s no published schedule for these kind of discount but the discounts themselves can be really good. I’ve seen it as low as $9.95 for one month. Also, creating that free account is a good idea because they’ll also email you when they’re having free weekends.

  27. Craig  November 9, 2012

    Dear Allison

No matter what they charge women to join, I have been on two different dating sites and no woman has ever picked up the dinner bill. I bought a lot of dinners for women who just wanted to eat for free and leave. So be glad it only costs you the subscription rate 🙂

  28. Jackie  December 14, 2012

I don’t understand “free weekends.” If you’re paying a monthly fee, and not a daily fee, how does a free weekend work? Do they add 2 days onto the end of your 6 months or something?

    reply
  29. Brad  December 15, 2012

Jackie – you can create a free account at eHarmony where you don’t pay anything. This free account allows you to do very, very little though. Basically, you can create you account and see some basic information on who they are matching you with. But nothing really beyond that.

With the free weekends, you can actually communicate with the people you are being matched with. This doesn’t affect paying members directly – if they are paying, they can do everything that a free weekend would give them. It can affect paying members indirectly in the sense that on the free weekends they may get a lot more communication, though.

By the way, their regularly promoted 2014 prices seem to have changed since you last updated your table. Basic is currently $39.95 (6 months), $23.95 (12 months), or $13.95 (24 months). TotalConnect plans are $39.95, $24.95, and $18.95 for the same periods. They’re offering a promo, 6 months of TC for $34.95 per month. Info as of 4/21/14, U.S. site.

It seems every time you try to sign up the price or what is offered is slightly different. I’ve tried once and it offered me $10.95 total connect for 24 months and I wasn’t quite ready to sign up or wanted to look for coupon codes and then a week later I signed up, went through the questionnaire and tried again and the price was different. So i figured i would test with a few bogus quick accounts and it seems that sometimes what you are offered are different prices, depending on the day or what you click on in the personality test maybe?? Some times it offered total connect and sometimes it didn’t. Can a person call them and get a deal? I would really like to signup for the $10.95 /24 month Total Connect plan but I don’t think I will until I can get that deal again but when will that be?

  32. Alan Clark  August 22, 2014

Appreciate your efforts to maintain and update the info! Found it very useful. I’m 61 and have been active on dating sites for several years. Have tried one pay site and a couple of free sites but not yet eHarmony or Match. That may change soon as I’ve noticed an odd development. A year ago, I might have come across a few profiles with a stated preference for a political viewpoint. Currently, at least at OKCupid and in my age range, one to two in ten specify their political view as a requirement for contact.

An increasing number of women (presumably men, too) seem to believe politics is an important criteria on which to base a romantic relationship. It’s not whether I agree or disagree with their views as everyone’s entitled to believe what they want. It’s that politics, along with the divisiveness we see every day, is seeping into places where I don’t think it belongs.

Have you seen or heard of this at eHarmony or Match?
