Twitter To Replace Dating Services?

Posted by:

This article asks the question: Can Twitter replace online dating sites? My first thought to this prior to reading the article was: weren’t people asking this same question about MySpace a few years ago? As I had mentioned back then, people also meet in grocery stores but that doesn’t mean grocery stores are going to replace bars, clubs or singles events. And so my first thought to this question was a resounding “No”.

Tips for Dating More Than One Person at a Time

Posted by:

As I lay out in my online dating guide, I think one approach that should be taken with online dating is to date as many people as as you can simultaneously. There are many reasons for this such as gaining confidence and just improving your odds by the number of people you are meeting. However, I don’t want to go over all of that again here.

Instead, I wanted to direct my readers to an article at ...

Dating News: Profile Lies, Age Issues and a Widowed Mom

Little White Profile Lies
This Washington Post article discusses some of the most common lies in dating profiles: height and weight. It also states that 8 out of 10 profiles have some type of lie in it. When I was dating online I had plenty of first dates but only one where the woman I met had blatantly lied about her appearance…so if 80% of people are lying I think most of those lies must be pretty small, ...

Tips on Finding the Man or Woman of Your Dreams

Posted by:

As I am frequent to complain about, finding really good dating advice can be difficult. I’ve found some good sources and I try to list them as I find them here. However far, far too many sites offer the “how to seduce a woman” type of advice that really isn’t helping anyone (excluding whoever is selling the advice, and there is almost always a price). This is the type of dating advice that discourages singles more than it helps them ...

An Internet Scammer Speaks

Posted by:

A few months ago I wrote a series of articles on avoiding online dating scams. One of the scams I discussed was the 419 scam. This involves the scammer convincing their target to send them money for one reason or another. With online dating it will often be the scam will often involve the person you are communicating with needing financial help for a troubling situation or because they want to meet you. For a recent example of this, ...

Men Get Stupid When Talking To Beautiful Women

Posted by:

If you’re a man and you’ve ever been frustrated by the fact that you fall apart socially around beautiful women, it’s not just you. According to a study discussed in the Telegraph, studies have shown that men actually do lose much of their ability to think and reason when around pretty women:

The research shows men who spend even a few minutes in the company of an attractive woman perform less well in tests designed to measure brain function than ...

Women Giving Bad Advice About Men

Posted by:

Over at SingleCityGuy.com, there’s a discussion of how women give their female friends awful advice regarding men. I’m not sure that this is a universal problem but I have seen exactly what he’s talking about. I’ve been absolutely flabbergasted by some suggestions women have made when debating dating situations regarding men. The problem, as the article points out, is that women are over-thinking how much thought we’re putting into our decisions.

A Room Full Of Male Scientists Agree…

Posted by:

According to the Telegraph, scientists have declared that men should marry women who are younger and smarter than themselves. The article is a little short on the details but I did find another article stating that men who marry younger women live longer.

While I find articles like this interesting, it always seems like a new group of scientists is coming out with a ...

Signs That A Bad Date Is Actually Good

Posted by:

I recently read a great article that describes some situations that may seem bad on a first date but could actually be a sign that things are going quite well. The article, 6 Bad First Date Signs That Are Actually Good, is worth reading because sometimes we convince ourselves that things have going horribly when they’re actually going fine. As an example, how many of us have gone on a ...

Service for Dating Younger Men (or Older Women)

Posted by:

This week I was contacted by folks over at Cougared.com who were looking to get some attention to statistics they have collected. They had recently finished surveying older women who prefer to date younger men (referred to as “cougars”) and some of the information they found is interesting:

  • The most common age group for cougar women between 40 and 43
  • A very large percentage of these women are looking for a serious relationship (rather surprising I guess when considering ...

With Online Dating, Meeting Matters

Posted by:

When I started dating online, I would drag my feet before meeting a woman. I wanted to make sure she was exactly what I was looking for before we met. Whenever I did finally meet someone I would almost always find out within the first few minutes of talking that she wasn’t the match I believed her to be. My first dates were stressful, disappointing, few and far-between. In the second phase of my online dating life (the ...

Online Dating Email Tips: More on First Email Length

Posted by:

Do not put your faith in what statistics say until you have carefully considered what they do not say.
– William W. Watt

OkCupid.com has some interesting statistics on online dating emails, specifically some numbers on who gets responses to their first email. Creating good first emails is something I’ve discussed in my online dating guide and also in some posts. My advice has always been keep your first contact brief and OkCupid agrees with this…but for some very ...
