With the site Chatroulette becoming so popular, it’s no surprise to see people jumping on the idea wagon. In this case, someone has come up with the idea of combining the random video chatting of Chatroulette with dating online and they’ve ended up with MyChanceRomance (or what I would like to call “the most painful way to date online if you hate rejection”).

As with Chatroulette, you’re provided the opportunity to video chat with a random person (of the opposite sex in this case). Each person is provided to “Next” the person if they are not interested. If neither person chooses to Next, then you can begin to chat with each other.

In my last post I talked about a service that I thought was almost good but this service actually has a lot of promise. This even sounds fun…as long as you can handle the idea of being Nexted. I do wonder how this service handles distance since the only option is to specify whether you are male or female. I guess it doesn’t concern itself with distance whatsoever. I suspect that this service is probably going to have even more of “penis” problem than Chatroulette so browse cautiously! (If you’re unfamiliar with this problem, it’s caused by the fact that some men desperately need to get naked for strangers.) My thought is that the odds of this service bringing singles together is pretty small but it will probably offer some fun for those not too serious about finding a relationship.

For Sale, Already?

One other interesting thing about this site: it’s up for sale already on Flippa. It’s really not a bad business model:

• Buy a domain.
• Take a great idea and change it a little.
• Convince Mashable, KillerStartups and others to write about you.
• Place the site for sale 30 days after purchasing it.
• Profit!

It actually is a smart idea. If they are successful I’m curious to see what direction the new owners would take the site in. While it is a great idea it is lacking some things to be a great dating service. However, it may never be a great dating site. In fact, being a great dating site might ruin it’s ability to make money. I say this because it seems that one of the best ways to make money with online dating sites is to make sure your dating service does a bad job creating relationships so that visitors are compelled click on other dating service advertisements. I won’t point any fingers but one of the biggest free dating sites runs on exactly this model.

In some ways this site could be the perfect storm of online dating sites that don’t work: very unlikely to bring relationship success but still very interesting/fun to use which will keep the traffic up.
